Abstract：Objective：To observe the effect of the therapy of Chinese herbal fumigation combined with hemodialysis and calamine lotion on skin pruritus in patients with uremia. Methods： A total of 120 uremia patients with skin pruritus were selected and divided into the control group and the treatment group according to the random number table method,60 cases in each group. Both groups were given the same basic treatment,that is,adjusting diet and lifestyle,and controlling basic diseases. The control group was treated with hemodialysis and calamine lotion, and the treatment group was additionally treated with Chinese herbal fumigation based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for two courses, four weeks being one course. Before and after treatment, the score of Four- Item Itch Questionnaire(FIIQ), Chinese medicine syndrome score,the levels of serum creatinine(SCr),phosphorus(P),blood urea nitrogen(BUN) and intact 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT) were compared between the two groups. The clinical effect in the two groups was evaluated and adverse reactions were recorded. Results： After treatment, the scores of FIIQ and Chinese medicine syndrome were decreased in both groups(P＜0.05),and the above two scores in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment,the levels of SCr,BUN,P and 5- HT were decreased in both groups(P＜0.05),and the levels of SCr, BUN, P and 5- HT in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). The total effective rate in the control group was 68.33% , lower than that of 88.33% in the treatment group, the difference being significant(P＜0.05). No significant adverse reactions were observed in the 2 groups. Conclusion：Chinese herbal fumigation combined with hemodialysis and calamine lotion in the treatment of uremic patients with pruritus can improve renal function and inhibit the expression of 5-HT,thus improving the pruritus symptoms of patients with good safety.
