This paper introduces a method simultaneously selecting the optimal allocation and parameters of PSS for some selected operating points in multi - machine power systems using a nonlinear program. For improving the dynamic performance of the PSS, a new objective function is proposed. The efficiency of the method is demonstrated by the results of a five - machine power system.
