Researches on Leech's Politeness Principle have been thick and fast both domestically and internationally. But most, if not all, of them have basically dealt with the speaker-strategies. Therefore the analysis of the role of listener's recognition of politeness in interaction and the listener-strategies which the authors believe are equally fundamental in assessing the essence and degree of verbal politeness.
