The Merchant of Venice has long been regarded as the representative work of Shakespeare＇s comedies,but the 2004 film version of The Merchant of Venice directed by Michael Radford provided a totally new interpretation to this classical play. The film revealed evident tragic features in the historic background, the characterization of the major character Shylock and the application of some special film stylistic elements.
