改革开放以来,中国古代体育史研究成果倍出,有不少新的突破。中国体育史研究经历了从学科复兴到向参与史学发展三个阶段。中国体育史研究的当代特征主要表现为:合作性大部头古代体育史、民俗体育史、体育文化史成果突出,其理论研究也不断深化;区域体育史、断代体育史研究方兴未艾,趋于深入;新视野下的当代体育史、新中国体育史也引人注目。相对传统的体育史学科而言,当代体育史研究的学术成就主要体现为三个方向:打破传统史学的教条、建构新体系、更新理论方法。尤其是跨学科多元、交织的理论渗透,为体育史的进一步发展提供了广阔的理论空间。
