With 3,5 - Dibromosalicylaldehyde as racemization catalyst, a general method for preparation of D - Phenylalanine methyl ester was successfully carried out by crystallization with D - tartaric acid in MeOH from L - Phenylalanine methyl ester hydrochloride being neutralized. Under the optimized conditions, the yield of the resolution reached to more than 80% with the op- tical purity to 99%.
