Characteristics of face recognizing technique in the development of face recognition are briefly reviewed. Pivotal method and technologies are expounded, and merits and demerits of these methods are indicated, according to three main steps of face recognition: face detection and localization, facial feature extraction and face verification and identification. Vista of future research in face recognition technology is distilled.
