With the develoPment of the library, the number of the western language books increases day by day. But the classification and cataloging of them are still at the starting stage in a lot of libraries, and need strengthening badly. This paper analYses the subiect indexing and cataloging standard of the western language books, also discusses the problems often met with in the course of indexing and cataloging, and put forward the corresPonding countermeasures.
